Here is a wonderful hand embroidered doily. It is round with a scalloped edge. There are beautifully executed pink and ivory carnations, buds, leaves and stems embroidered all around. The edge is finished in ecru silk,.
Society silk embroidery developed as a hobby, almost an art-form, in the early 1900's. The name derived from its favor among "society" ladies. Floral designs stamped onto off-white linen were sold to be embroidered. Some artistic ladies created their own designs.
This pretty piece measures approximately 13-1/2" in diameter. It is in very good condition.
