We are offering a wonderful vintage figurine, made by Mortens Studio, circa 1940's. This is a large size Cocker Spaniel dog. The dog stands in show position on all four legs with head up. It has quite a regal and proud appearance. The dog measures approximately 7" L X 5-1/4" H and is very, very life-like. It is golden or honey brown in color. The original sticker is present on the underside of the body.
Mortens Studio was located in Chicago, Illinois from 1931 until the 1950's. Oscar Mortens emigrated to the United States from Sweden and became a naturalized citizen after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and the Berlin Academy of Art.
This beautiful figurine is in excellent condition. There are just three tiny pin-prick size spots on two of the toes and one on the side of the tail where the glaze has come off. This is amazing considering Mortens figures are often found in poor condition. They are heavy figures but considered fragile, due to the materials and method of construction. Each figure began as a metal frame and then covered with plaster and a porcelain glaze.
A really terrific likeness of the fine Cocker Spaniel breed.
