At 27" tall this girl is like a real child. The Simon & Halbig company made such beautiful character like dolls starting in the 1880s. She has the solid domed head we often call Belton style. She is a closed mouth version with a pouty expression, but to me it almost has the start of a smile. She has dark brown paperweight eyes.
The body is a straight wristed Sonneberg type body. When I got her it had been repainted. After much work the overpaint was stripped to reveal the original finish. The legs are lighter in color but are the correct type with the straight upper legs.
She is wearing antique undies and a beautiful antique dress with fabulous tucks and cut work down the front. It was a Christening dress at one time that a seamstress friend cut down (due to holes in the bottom). The wired lace bonnet is an antique also. The wig is a fabulous auburn colored human hair wig that is antique and compliments her skin tone. No shoes.
The bisque is free of hairlines, damage or repairs. She has dark brown paperweight eyes. The eyes have roughness to the surface, but they are original.
She is a gorgeous example of the 949 and quite a large version so she will look like a real child in your collection. Love her!!
