This lovely Victorian pin has a great style & will look wonderful on either a man or woman. The pin has a silver top thru out the entire area of the gemstones with the pins lower point & backside being gold. The top contains a faceted ruby & two approx. 16-18 pt. European Cut diamonds. In the leaf like pedestal & in the channel thru the center of the pin are 11 prong mounted Rose Cut diamonds giving the pin an approx. 45 pts total.
The gold & silver are in excellent condition with no rips, dents, cracks or repairs. The pin stick, it's hinge & the C clasp all appear original & are in smooth working order. The pin has just a hair of wave & a good point. With close eye or loupe inspection you can see that the collar mountings on the 2 European diamonds at the top of the pin show as not perfectly round. I believe their collars to have been hand crimped around the stone's individual shapes. Also I find when viewing the top edge of the side rim of the channel holding the 10 Rose Cuts a bit of unevenness. This disruption may be from 2 Rose Cuts being replaced as they appear to be the largest of the 10, or again can be original to pin. Both European & Rose Cuts are very early cuts of diamonds, They both have characteristics not found in later 20th. century cuts. Europeans are not perfectly round & Rose Cuts can be any shape & any number of facets.
The pin has no precious metal content marks as is common to the period. Rich has acid tested & will guarantee a minimum of 14kt. gold & 900 silver. The pin measures just a hair under 3" tall x just under a 1/2" at widest point. A very stylish pin that I can see used in numerous ways; on a man's tie, a ladies sweater/blouse neckline, on either sex's lapel or to even hold a neck scarf in place.
