Gold, Onyx and Rock Crystal Ring with Diamond Accent - Circa 1925

This vintage 20's ring will compliment your rock crystal or onyx jewelry as well as standing on it's own merit with it's many design components. The ring contains four alternating flat topped cabochons, 2 each, of onyx and rock crystal (quartz). They are collar mounted with the onyx rims being entirely mil-grained while the rock crystal interior rims are mil-grained and the exterior rims are smooth. Accenting the cabochon top of the ring are two different decors. In the center is a delicate, mil-grained, fine wired floral like decoration with a square center mount holding a prong mounted approx. 1pt. diamond. Surrounding the cabochon top is a cast border of a squiggle pattern. This wonderful top piece is then combined with a cast mil-grained open work patterned base that extends slightly down the shank. If you look closely at photo # 4 you will see that the larger side pattern is actually a butterfly! What a super extra touch to the ring's design.

The gold is in excellent condition with no cracks, rips, dents, holes, nasty scratches, ugly abrasions or repairs. Located on the thin wire floral like decor in the center of the ring, possibly original to manufacture, is a flaw (see photo # 1). The bottom petal at the 6 o'clock position is missing it's 1/64" bottom portion of it's curve. With close inspection using a 10 power loupe you can see a couple flaws that are original to manufacture where an open work hole is not open or an edge of a hole is not connected to it's neighbor. Where some of the pattern work extends down the shank in the area that would rub between your fingers you will find some normal and expected loss of pattern definition that I am reporting to be accurate. The shank still has good density and is nicely round.

Three of the four cabochons are excellent with no cracks, chips, scratches or abrasions. One of the rock crystal cabs (photo # 6) has a small chip/flake along the exterior border that is almost 3/32" long x less then 1/32" wide. All of the cabs as well as the floral wire decor and it's square mounted diamond are firmly seated. The tiny diamond is nicely white with good brightness and sparkle.

The ring has a purity mark of 14K on the interior of the shank. Rich has also acid tested and will guarantee a minimum of 14kt. On the size pole it is a 5 1/2 with the top decor area being approx. 3/4" tall x 7/16" wide
