This stunning white gold ring is just fabulous with it's wonderful focal point of two hand carved amethyst gemstones on each side of the top of the ring. On each stone you find three soft, well rounded curves of amethyst that graduate down in size as the gem extends towards the shank. Also on each side of the ring you find two open areas in the gold where you can view the side of the gems that have been crafted with a tiny cross hatch pattern. Accenting both sides of the ring you find four rows, for a total of eight rows, of tiny prong mounted diamonds.
The amethyst is in excellent plus condition with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches or abrasions. All of the diamonds are there and all appear original. They have a beautiful white coloration and brightness. They were very difficult to count due to their size and the curves on the mounting but counting one side I got 46 diamonds which gives a total of 92 diamonds. Per info I saw on the exact same ring done with topaz it contains .87 cts. of diamonds that were VVS in quality and F in color. So I can only assume these diamonds are very close to this rating if not identical. The gold is also in excellent plus condition with no dents, holes, cracks, ugly scratches, nasty abrasions or repairs. It has wonderful thickness and is quite substantial. With a 10 power loupe you can find some minuscule scratches or flea bites on the exterior as well as the interior of the shank.
The ring measures an approx. 6 1/4 on my size pole. The exterior of the shank contains the Io Si hallmark on one side and the limited edition number of 25/100 on the other side. The interior of the shank contains the 750 cartouche for 18kt. gold and the Italian goldsmith registration mark cartouche. In my research I found what appears to be the matching earrings that are being offered for sale at a US retail price of $9,675.00 in 18kt white gold with .41ct of diamonds and just 1.00ct of Amethyst.
Per a few articles I read jewelry from Io Si Scavia is comprised of collections of small, limited edition, hand-crafted pieces. Each piece is engraved and registered with it's own unique number. When bought new it comes with a certificate of authenticity for the specific piece and series. The line, designed by Fulvio Maria Scavia, is recognized for it's innovation. It's pieces are of 18Kt. white, yellow or rose gold and feature colored gems like amethyst, topaz, citrine, sapphires, tsavorite garnets, quartz as well as diamonds. You can also find beautiful and bright VVS clarity small diamonds used as accents.
Mr. Scavia is considered one of Italy's best known and prominent designers. He learned his craft from his grandfather and started designing at a very early age. When he was just 17 he won, all at the same time, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in De Beers’ “Diamonds Today” competition. Since then he has won fourteen more Diamonds International Awards and a Tahitian Pearl Trophy. It appears the Io Si Scavia Company or Line is not in existence any longer as I find no evidence other then a couple retail internet jewelry stores still selling a few pieces as well as a few auction sites and sellers like us offering a piece for resale. Per an article I read it was sold to a " luxury goods conglomerate" and I can only assume Mr. Scavia stopped designing and had his name dropped from the company at this point. But Io Si is in existence and currently appears to be under the umbrella of a corporation in India. Mr. Scavia is the head of "Scavia", the Italian company his grandfather, Domenico, started in 1911. It exists today with his leadership and his stunning designs in gold and platinum with precious and semi precious gems.
