This estate citrine ring has one of the most fabulous fancy/fantasy cuts we have ever seen. The ring truly demands attention! When you look at the front and back ends it has a somewhat triangle shape and when you look at the sides it is oval in shape. It is done with a mix of plain and faceted cuts. The bottom of the stone and both sides contain a large, oval, high polished, flat surface. The row at the center top of the gem between the two side ovals widens as it goes down both ends and is done in a checkerboard facet cut. Pinned into the gemstone at the top of both sides of the shank is a small white gold mounting in a floral design each containing 5 small diamonds and a single ruby. They then connect to both the front and back wide checkerboard area of the gem with a graceful gold curved mount containing a small gold flower in it's center which is also pinned into the citrine. Besides being beautiful accents these pinned in mountings take the place of prongs to hold the citrine into the ring.
The gold is in excellent plus condition with no cracks, holes, dents, rips, nasty scratches, ugly abrasions or repairs. The pins are firm in their attachment to the citrine holding the gem solidly in the ring. The shank has excellent plus density.
The citrine is in excellent minus condition. When viewing with my eyes I can see a speck on the top checkerboard row. When louped I can see it is not inside the citrine but a minute flea bite to the surface. With the 10 power loupe I can see roughness to facet rims that I am reporting to be accurate. The reason for the minus rating is when one of the flower mountings was pinned in it appears to have caused a chip on the citrine (see photo # 9). With the ring on your finger this would not be seen as it is on a downwards curve of the gem.
The diamonds are prong mounted and all appear to be the originals. There are ten 2pt diamonds for a total weight of 20pts. They are well matched in sparkle and color-nicely white, not at all opaque or gray or yellow. The two rubies are also prong mounted and measure approx. 3.50 mm in diameter. One has an approx. 1/32" chip on it's crown (see last photo) that appears to have been caused when the stone was pronged. The other ruby has a very minor approx. 1/64" long fissure near the edge of it's table visible with a 10 power loupe that I am reporting to be accurate.
The only mark on the ring is an 18kt. gold purity mark on the interior of the shank. It always astounds me when something this fabulous has no makers mark. This amazing fantasy cut citrine ring is sure to get you compliments galore with it's unusual shape and beauty.
