This super ring is done with a classic mounting that shows the gemstones to a lovely advantage. The moonstone is a cabochon with that beautiful blue gray coloration. It has been surrounded with alternating faceted diamonds and blue sapphires whose prong placement enables the gems to create a star shaped frame for the cabochon.
The gold is in excellent plus condition with no cracks, rips, holes, dents, nasty scratches, ugly abrasions or repairs. All the prongs appear to be the originals in excellent shape and the shank has great density. With a 10 power loupe you can see on the exterior center back of the shank some very light scuffing consistent with being on a hand.
The moonstone cabochon is just a hair under 5/16" in diameter and stands a hair over 1/8" above the gold mounting. It is in excellent plus condition also with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches or ugly abrasions. With a 10 power loupe you can see some very faint overall scratches again consistent with the ring being worn but very well taken care of. The diamonds and sapphires all appear to be the originals. The diamonds are 2 points each and have a nice touch of sparkle. The sapphires are the same diameter but a little different in weight and are an attractive dark blue but not that awful navy sometimes found in accent stones. Both the diamonds and sapphires are well matched in their coloration.
The ring has a makers hallmark, 14 (gold purity) on the interior of the shank and measures an approx. 6 1/4 on the size pole. The gemstone design measures 1/2" from star point to star point. With the classic design it's difficult to give the ring an age, but due to it's nice quality we estimate somewhere in the second half of the 20th century.
