These Victorian earrings have that wonderful rich, deep burgundy color found in old Bohemian garnets. All of the garnets are faceted. There appears to be three sizes of round & the larger flower motif dangle has pear shaped garnets for it's petals. All of the garnets appear to be the originals. They are intact with no large chips, cracks or missing/broken tops. With a 10 power loupe you can find on a couple garnets the normal, occasional bite to a facet rim.
The garnets are mounted in gold fill. This is a non precious metal that has been heavily gold plated. From the front the only metal/plating that is visible is the rings attaching the three garnet dangles on each earring. From the backside you can see the plate has mellowed with age to a faint rose tone with age spotting as is normal. The backside of the small top flower on each earring shows evidence of solder. This is where our smith replace the gold fill wires with 14kt. gold wires. We do this on gold fill earrings so our customers with sensitive ears & allergies can wear the earrings. From the top of the small garnet flower to the bottom of the dangles is 1 1/8" long with the widest point a hair over 1/2" thru the large flower. From the top of the ear wires the earrings are approx. 1 3/8" long.
