Every thing about this stunning locket is in outstanding condition and of super quality. The top and bottom openwork curlicues and the outer edge borders of the portrait and the locket all have hand engraved patterns. The applied single flower with it's leaves and curling vine have fine granulated surface patterns and around the collar holding the portrait is an applied rope pattern trim. The enamel portrait is beautifully done by a superb artist. She has wonderful, fine facial features and delicate shading to her skin. Her curling hair is well accented and includes hand painted daisies and half seed pearl decorations. She is dressed in an off the shoulder gown with a lace trim and ruffle neckline with a daisy corsage. As a final decorative touch she is wearing a half pearl pendent on a blue ribbon.

The gold is in excellent plus condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, abrasions or nasty scratches. Even the bale appears to be original. The only thing I found was on the top openwork curlicue. I am sure it is the original as it has the same engraved pattern as well as being the same shape as it's smaller bottom version, just reversed in placement. It appears at some time it became loose and when it was reattached it was done with silver or lead solder. I never saw the solder till I did my inspection with a 10 power loupe. The hinge to the backside locket appears to be original and is in working order. The locket window has a very nice tight fit closure. It has a beveled rim glass cover of unknown age. It is in excellent minus condition with just a tiny 1/8" scratch on it's interior.

The enamel is also in excellent plus condition and appears to be all original. It has been inspected with a 10 power loupe. The only thing I could find is a few minute, surface only, flea bites from usage and some of those minute speck like sized pits that are a result of the original firing process. She has five half seed pearls in her hair and one in her necklace. They all appear to be the originals except the top most one in her hair. The five original pearls are well match in color and the replacement is just a bit brighter with more shine.

The locket has no gold marks as is common to the time period. Rich has acid tested several spots and will guarantee a minimum of 18kt. The actual heart shape minus it's openwork top and bottom decor is 1 5/8" tall x 1 1/8" at widest point. The locket from the top of it's bale to the bottom tip of the openwork decor is 2 9/16" tall. A quality piece in superb condition of outstanding age for your collection or to wear.
