Victorian Two Tone 14kt. Gold Pin - Pendent with Cultured Pearl Accent - Circa 1880
This pin/pendent is wonderful quality and has quite a bit of hand engraving and assembly. The two circular wheel like pieces are a lovely dark bronze tone gold and have a very fine granulated surface under the raised ball dots in their centers. The two wings (for want of a better word) and the upside down V are a brighter gold with a high polished surface that has been hand engraved. There are rims that have a rope or mil-grained pattern thru out the piece. The bottom wheel and it's V are assembled by a form of hinge allowing it to dangle and have light movement. The final touch is the two cultured pearls, one stationary and the other a dangle, used as accents.
The gold is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, nasty scratches/abrasions or repairs. The hinge attaching the two parts of the pin/pendent is original and without repair. The pin hingeand pin stick appear to be the originals (but the clasp and bale are not the originals) and all are in smooth working order. Both pearls appear original, are a well match light cream color and are without chips or cracks. We purchased the pin/pendant and matching earrings from a Vancouver B.C. picker and the modifications were made before we bought them. The 14k marks described below were surely added to get the pieces through customs as the jewelry was originally unmarked American made in the 19th century.
The backside of the dangle half of the pin/pendent has a very light impressed 14K mark as well as a 14k on the fold down bale. The piece measures approx. 1 7/8" tall x 1 1/4" at widest point and weighs 9.4 grams. A super pin/pendent combo at a great price. We also have the matching earrings listed at this time-see Item 631.
