Baby cups are such a great collectable and so much fun. This Kerr cup is a lovely example of a quality company's design for that special baby. The cup was definitely for a boy as the four rhymes depicted are all male. We have Puss in Boots, Little Jack Horner, Little Boy Blue and Tom Tom the Pipers Son all in scenes from their rhyme and all within circular frames. In the front of the cup there was an empty circle for presentation. It has been engraved with the name "GILBERT" and his birth date below the circle of "2-22-27". Between the circular frames are a total of five rectangular frames. The one under the handle as well as the two on either side of "GILBERT" contain rabbits. The other two each contain a pair of birds on a branch.
The sterling has no holes, rips, cracks, deep dents or repairs. The top rim of the cup is nicely in round being off by only an approx. 1/16". It looks as if Gilbert banged his cup and there has been professional work to smoothing out any dents evidenced by some shallow swirl marks on the interior of the cup. You will find that the approx. bottom half of the cup and it's base rim now have un-even surface but no large or deep nasty dents ( see photos # 6-7-8 ). The pattern definition is in excellent condition with deep lines giving you a very easy viewing of the design.
The marks are on the base of the cup as seen in the photos. They are the Kerr hallmark, "STERLING" and the cup's model/design number. The cup measures 2" tall x an approx. 2 15/16" diameter top rim. A great cup by a top company for a baby cup or nursery rhyme collection.
