The shape of the bowl on this Art Nouveau tea strainer is so super and imaginative. Note the ruffled sides and edges with a form of notched rim. Then there is that beautiful spray of two flowers and leaves along almost half of the bowl. This strainer is extremely attractive without being overly fussy. Note the wonderful dimension thru out the bowl's ruffles as well as the detail in the flowers. Just a fabulous and different overall design.
The sterling is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, cracks, nasty scratches, abrasions or repairs. When I held the strainer up to the light and tilted it back and forth I found one extremely minute pin hole next to the rim (photo # 6 left corner) so very, very tiny that I can't even measure it. The strainer does have some of those light surface scratches as can be commonly found due to usage and age. The center of the strainer has some faint un-even surface but all it's original holes are in excellent shape. The wood handle is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches or abrasions. It is nicely even in color with a faint gloss and is extremely firm in it's attachment to the sterling.
The marks are on the backside as seen in the photos. They read: Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. hallmark: "STERLING" and "C 1926" (strainer's model/design number). The strainer measures approx. 7 1/4" long x 3 3/4" at widest portion of bowl. The interior flat base of the bowl is approx. 1 1/4" square. A beautiful and distinctive Art Nouveau tea strainer in lovely condition to use or add to a collection.
