This American sterling match safe is in superb condition. Both the front and back are identical and the safe has no presentation (owner's initials/name). The lid of the safe is done with swirling curlicues that are also used as a border pattern for the safe's body. The center of the safe has a male golfer in backswing position ready to impact the ball located at the base of his left foot. Our golfer has wonderful dimension and accent lines. You can plainly see the drape of his clothing caused by the twist of his body, a button and pocket on his jacket, the button or pom pom on his hat as well as pattern on his boots and socks. Above his head is a nice sized rose with swirling leaves. On the lower half of the safe you can see fine pattern lines for grass and some distant hills.
The sterling is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracked seams, nasty scratches, abrasions or repairs. The lid's original hinge is in working order without repair. The lid has it's proper interior closure mechanism but does not spring open or closed by it's self as some safes do. When you close the safe the lid is firmly closed with a proper alignment of rims, there is no wiggle & it stays closed when safe is shaken. With close inspection you can find a couple of those pin point sized faint surface indentations and one dimple (bottom insert photo # 5) a hair less then 1/16" in diameter. The pattern definition has some very, very light wear to his upper arm, one of his socks and probably the higher points of the curlicues. The striker ridges are extremely well defined.
The "STERLING" mark is on the inside bottom lip and there is no maker's mark. The safe measures 2 5/16" tall x 1 1/4" wide x 1/4" deep. A super piece for a match safe or golf collection!
