The Art Nouveau border design on this strainer is so well done, classic and attractive without being overly fussy. Note the wonderful dimension thru out the different design components. Super well defined swirls and fine accent lines as well as pattern indents and curves in the flower petals. You will even find itty bitty little indents in the flower tongues. Just a fabulous attention to detail.
The sterling is in excellent minus condition with no rips, dents, cracks, nasty scratches, abrasions or obvious repairs. When I held the strainer up to the light and tilted it back and forth I found four pin holes (photo # 6) that are so very minute I can't even measure them, but I am declaring them to be accurate! The outer edge of the strainer is a rolled rim to add strength. In photo # 4 at approx. 2 o'clock you see a tiny line in the rim. This does not have the appearance of a crack but looks to be the remains of a cut-possibly to assist with the rolling of the rim?? The rim does have some un-even surface as is common due to usage and age. The center of the strainer has it's original holes all intact. It also has a couple faint pin point sized shallow indents as visible in photo # 7 that we are declaring to be accurate. The wood handle is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches or abrasions. It is very even in color with a faint gloss and is extremely firm in it's attachment to the sterling.
The only mark is "STERLING" on the backside of the bowl. The strainer measures approx. 7" long x 3" at widest portion of bowl. The interior flat base of the bowl is approx. 1 1/4" in diameter. A beautiful Art Nouveau floral tea strainer in lovely condition to use or add to a collection.
