These Fahrner earrings are so inventive with their various components that you can easily understand why Fahrner was so popular in it's day and is widely collected now. We start with a cast sterling mounting that contains open work areas. In it's center is what appears to be a collar mounted, oval, hand carved, black stained or naturally black piece of wood. In the wood carving are three collar mounted stones - a 1/16" dia. round chrysoprase cabochon and two tiny marcasites. At the top of the mounting is a cream colored enamel oval. The final touch is strategically placed tiny marcasites accenting the exterior open work to give that tear drop dangle a bit of shimmer to draw your attention. The mounting hangs from a screw back earring top and a thin connector link that both contain marcasites continuing that bit of shimmer up to your ear.

The sterling is in excellent condition with no rips, cracks, holes. dents, nasty scratches/abarasions or repairs. The screw back threads are in smooth working order and fit properly against the earring. There is a bit of un-even surface to the collars from hand crimping the wood ovals in place. The carved wood motif is all intact with no missing / broken off pieces on one earring. On the other there is a thin edge border approx 5/32" long that is missing (see photo # 6). As the wood border is so thin and the collar causes a shadow I never knew the tiny, thin strip of wood was missing until I used a loupe. The wood motif measures 1 " tall x approx. 3/8" wide. The cabochons in the centers are without cracks, chips, scratches or abrasions. The enamel is intact, all original with no cracks, crazing, chips or repairs. All of the marcasites are there with none standing out to being a replacement.

The earrings are a hair under 2 3/4" long from the top of the screw back to the earring's base and measure 13/16" at their widest point. The backside border of the mounting has the marks as seen in the photo and read: STERLING and the TF circle on one side and GERMANY on the other side. We have the matching pin currently listed - Item # 543. A great pair of Fahrner earrings to wear or put in your collection!
