This pin pendent combination has a beautiful and stylish design. A lot of Victorian pieces can be so static but this has wonderful flow, soft curves and dimension. You have two separate cast mountings, a 5 leg star and a 5 petal flower overlapping and attached together at the center. The pearls contained within the cast mountings all appear to be half pearls that are ball and pronged mounted. The 20 pearls, 4 each row, that are placed in the open interiors of the petals are full, round pearls that are spike mounted. The center round pearl is also prong mounted. There are 121 separate pearls in this pin!
The gold is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, nasty scratches, abrasions or repairs. The pin hinge, pin stick, C clasp and fold down bale are all original in smooth working order. The pin stick has a good point and a bit of a soft curve that looks to be original. The fold down bale needs a ring for the chain to slide thru so the pendent will lay properly. Evidently the original owner only wore the piece as a pin. The pearls are all there and all appear to be originals. One of the spike mounted full pearls shows a touch of glue. If it is a replacement instead of a reattachment the jeweler did a superb matching job. The larger pearls have a soft cream to a hint of silver color. The smaller pearls have a silver coloration as is commonly found in Victorian jewelry. The jeweler who mounted all the pearls did so with wonderful blending of tones using the more silver toned pearls in curves to accent shadows. This may have been a mid priced piece being pearls but it was definitely high quality!
The pin - pendent has no marks as can be common to the period. Rich has acid tested and will guarantee a minimum of 14Kt. The most accurate measurement I can do is across two flower petals, from exterior point to point, which is 1 5/16" wide. A lovely Victorian pin - pendent in outstanding condition, quality and design.
