This French pin has such lovely design with it's great shape, open work areas and floral motif thru the center of the "ribbon". The pin has nice depth to the casting that when added to the open work aids in the illusion of soft curves and flow for the bow. The entire surface of the pin contains various sizes of prong and ball mounted marcasites and in it's center is a hair smaller then 1/4" round chrysoprase cabochon.
The silver is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, visible scratches / abrasions or repairs. One of the interior backside bow sections has an area of scratching evidently from an inexperience person testing the silver as they did not understand French touch-marks. The pin hinge, pin stick and trumpet clasp are all the originals in working order. The pull out pin on the trumpet clasp sags a bit when extended but when pushed into locking position is very firm. The pin stick has some wave and a good point.
The marcasites are prong and ball mounted and all appear to be there. When inspecting with a 10 power loupe out of the approx 230 marcasites you can find about 15 that have some of their top facets crushed and/or missing a tiny piece with one having an approx. 1/3 piece missing. The collar mounted chrysoprase cabochon is with out chips, cracks or nasty scratches or abrasions.
On the backside interior you can find a diamond cartouche that is the makers mark. On the side rim of the casting by the trumpet you will find the French boars head cartouche that is for a minimum of 800 silver content. Holding the pin as seen in photo # 1 the pin measures 2" at widest point x 2 1/4" at tallest point. A lovely vintage pin with a lot of style in a very nice size at a great price.
