This Fahrner pin has a truly stunning look. It is comprised of five curved 3/16" wide rectangles of alternating hematite and frosted rock crystal (clear quartz) stones. The gemstones are divided by approx. 1/16" wide thin rows of marcasites within mil-grained rims of sterling. At the rounded ends of the pin you find an identical pattern giving the illusion of a form of a knot again containing mil-grained rims and marcasites. Just a beautiful design as well as extremely high quality workmanship. It has the look of a more expensive piece of jewelry not commonly found in sterling of the period.
The silver is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, deep scratches or repairs. The gemstones are held in with 1/4" oval half circles that occasionally have a bit of un-even surface from hand crimping. The pin hinge, pin stick and clasp are all the originals in smooth working order. The clasp has an additional original piece that is an enclosed ball end to cover the point of the pin. A nice extra touch not normally found on silver jewelry. The pin stick has a bit of wave and a good point.
The gemstones are in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, nicks, nasty scratches or abrasions. With a 10 power loupe you can find an occasional bite at an edge rim possibly done during cutting / polishing. The marcasites are prong and ball mounted. All of them are there and none stand out as replacements.
The marks are on the backside of the pin as seen in the photo. They read 935 (a bit more silver then sterling) and the TF circle. There is also a touch-mark on the pin stick that we are unfamiliar with. I can only assume it is an import assay mark for another country. The pin measures a hair over 2" long and is approx 1/2" tall. A fabulous bar pin in superb condition from an outstanding and very collectable company.
