14Kt. Gold and Onyx Cameo Pin with Enamel Accent - Circa 1910
Not only is this cameo pin beautiful and in super condition but it is a wonderful size. It will fit any position on your clothes; lapel, shoulder, cowl collar or base of a neckline. Our lady has a lovely serene face with fabulous waves and curls in her hair that are secured with a tied ribbon like head band. She is attractive and feminine without being fussy or overdone. As a finishing touch is her simple but elegant mounting with the outer border done in champleve style enamel.
The gold is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, nasty scratches, abrasions or repairs. The pin hinge, pin stick and locking clasp are all the originals in smooth working order. The pin stick has a good point and there is just a hint of wave by the hinge that may be original to manufacture. The locking clasp has a nice click when I push it into position with my finger nail. The enamel is excellent minus with no cracks or repairs. There are two tiny spots of chips (largest 1/32" long) on the surface of black enamel next to a gold rim. See the last photo for position and the two dark spots between the red > <'s for these minute chips. They are so minor I never found them till I used a 10 power loupe.
The cameo is in excellent plus condition with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches, abrasions or repairs. I could not find a single chip to our lady. I did find a couple very minute flea bites too small to measure on the edge rim of the black portion of the onyx. The only one I could measure is seen in photo # 3 red ^ and is smaller then 1/32". The black portion of the stone has a superb high polish so there are reflections in the photos.
The gold mark is on the original clasp as seen in the photo and reads 14K. There is no makers mark or a signature on the cameo. The pin measures 1 7/16" tall x 1 1/16" wide. A wonderful hardstone cameo in outstanding condition at a fabulous price.
