These super Victorian earrings have a large variety of design components as well as being hand crafted. The basic earring is rose gold done with a deep satin finish accented with hand engraved detail lines and areas of high polish. Accenting the top and bottom of each earring are three green gold leaves with textured surface and engraved detail lines. Completing each earring is two tiny red stone cabochons and six natural half pearls in several sizes (the pearls have no value except as decoration). Five of the pearls are in pronged buttercup mounts with the 6th. being prong mounted as the center of a five petal flower.
The gold is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, cracks, nasty scratches. abrasions or repairs. All of the design pieces are there. All 10 half pearls are there, appear to be the originals, are well matched in color and are firm in their prongs. The four red cabochon accents also appear to be the originals and are to small to determine the exact type of gem. The ear wire of the earrings is an early form of leverback where the end point of the wire inserts from the back of your ear and hooks into that tiny loop located at the top of the earring. Both wires fit in their loops with a soft click.
The earrings have no gold content marks as is common to the period. Rich has acid tested numerous parts of the earrings and will guarantee a minimum of 14kt. But with his 40 plus years of experience believes them to be 16kt. European as they test definitely more then 14 but less then 18. The design portion of the earring is 1 3/16" tall x 11/16" at widest point. From the top curve of the wire to the base of the earring is 2" tall. A stunning Victorian pair of antique earrings for the woman who loves distinctive jewelry.
