These Art Nouveau festoon necklaces are always so attractive and feminine as this one is. But this example is also a little unusual in the fact it is done with Lapis cabochons as well as just a hint of Arts and Crafts flavor to the shape of the five remaining cabs as well as their three mountings in the dangles. The center focal point is that wonderful Nouveau swirling mounting holding the large oval lapis cab. Hanging from it's base are three angle edged tear drop like cabochons. Above the center focal point of the necklace are two additional angled tear drops with all of the designs being accented with cultured pearls.
The gold is in excellent plus condition with no rips, dents, holes, nasty scratches, abrasions, cracks or repairs. The clasp is the standard spring ring as is usually found. All of the lapis cabochons are also in excellent condition with no cracks, nasty scratches or abrasions and are firmly seated. Those white specks in the photos on some of the stones are NOT flea bites but are those silver colored specks/high lights found naturally in lapis. When inspecting with a 10 power loupe you can find normal, occasional, faint fissures and pits to the cab's surface as is found in stones. The only thing to report is a tiny, surface only, chip on the backside of one of the dangles that is approx 1/16" x 1/32" next to it's collar mounting. The oval cab is 5/8" long x a 1/4" tall and the tear drops are 3/8' and 1/2" tall x 2/8" at widest point. The cultured pearls are all intact and all appear to be original. There are approx. 4 or 5 different sizes and range from off white to very soft cream.
The only gold content mark (14K) is very tiny and on the curve of the spring ring and would not photograph well. Rich has acid tested and will guarantee a minimum of 14kt. thru out the necklace. The focal point measures 2 5/16" tall from the oval cabochons top pearl to the base of the middle dangle and is just shy of an 1" at it's widest point. Stretched out straight from spring ring to closure ring on the necklace is 15 3/4". A wonderful festoon necklace with a lovely blending of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts design .
