This necklace has a great look with it's multiple design components. The slightly oval chain links are of alternating two different patterns. The first has an evenly spaced grooved surface running along the oval shape thru the entire link. The other link has a high polished surface with 4 slightly raised horizontal bars, 2 on each side, located on the long curve of the oval. In between the bars is metallic enamel in 2 different colors, indigo and red, one color on each side of the link. In addition the enamel links are also alternating due to the placement of the colors.
The gold is in excellent plus condition with no rips, cracks, holes, dents, nasty scratches/abrasions or repairs. The groove pattern is crisp and evenly well defined. The necklace closes with a soft thud and stays closed when shaken. It has two figure 8 security catches that close firmly with a loud click.
The enamel is all original with no chips, nasty scratches/abrasions to it's surface, missing areas or repairs. If you inspect with a 10 power loupe and angling for best light you can find an occasional minute surface scratch or flea bite. As stated before the enamel is metallic as it has itty bitty flecks of silver thru out. Indigo blue is a very deep purple blue and the red is a very true red with just a touch of blue - it makes Rich think of very ripe strawberries.
The outer edge measurement of the links is approx. 11/16" long x 9/16" wide. The thickness of the link is approx. 1/8" in dia. with the links being substantial but hollow. The necklace weighs a total of 93.8 grams of 18kt. It measures 17 3/4" long stretched out straight not counting the closure flange and as stated above is 9/16" wide. The only mark we can find is a 750 (European for 18K) in a somewhat rectangular cartouche. The necklace came from an estate sale and Rich gave it it's circa of 1980 due to the popular use of enamel accent in the latter portion of the 20th. Century. A great necklace, in outstanding condition that fits very well into today's style of bold jewelry.
