This classic Victorian locket is in wonderful condition. It has a lovely satin finish surface with a hand engraved 8 pointed star on it's center front mounted with a bright European Cut 18 Pt. diamond.
The gold is in excellent condition with no cracks, rips, dents, holes, nasty scratches/abrasions or repairs. The hinge appears to be the original without repair although with a 10 power loupe you can see a couple approx. 1/32" and smaller scratches-maybe original to assembly? The locket closes with a loud click and stays very firmly closed. It's indent line for your nail to open is fully functional with a decent length nail but with a loupe you can see from it's edge rim being lightly rough it has been opened with a jewelers tool. Both of these tiny flaws are minor, can be found with age and are not visible without close inspection by a loupe. I did find with tilting for best angle of light a hint of a tiny indentation on the front of the locket, again very unimportant but am declaring it to be accurate. The satin finish is on both sides of the locket and is very intact with no areas of high polished surface peeking thru. The backside contains artistic, swirling presentation of what appears to be "TK","JK" or "IK". The locket has what appears to be it's original bale that has a nice sized opening that is approx. 1/8" in dia.
Both sides on the interior hold photos that are approx. 1 1/16" in diameter. Both photo rims appear original and are firmly in place. They are rose gold, not yellow, but we see this quite often in antique lockets. If you put your own photos in be sure to remove one rim at a time and replace it with the same top and bottom position as these rims would have been hand crafted to fit the locket. One rim has a faint line type crease (see last photo-2:30 clock position) and both sides of the interior and rims have a couple very faint scratches all from probably the rims being removed to insert photos over the years (see interior photos). There are clean, clear photo covers on both sides of the locket-usually replacements after all these years.
The locket has been acid tested and Rich will guarantee a minimum of 12 kt. gold. It measures 1 3/8" in dia. and is approx. an 1/8" deep. A beautiful Victorian locket in outstanding condition for those important photos you wish to have next to your heart.
