This fabulous locket has great design and a multitude of hand work. The assembly is all hand done as well as those gold branches running thru the leaves being hand crafted and applied. All of the leaves as well as the seed pearl tear drop mounted on the bale are silver.
The gold and silver are in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, holes, rips, scratches or repairs noted. With all the hand assembly it is impossible to be sure every solder joint is original. When you look at the interior lid of the locket you will find a multitude of tiny holes, these are original as the lid is pierced. On the side rims of the interior of the locket you will find rub abrasions from a less experienced person doing an acid test. But these are not seen unless you open the locket and inspect the rims. The collar and glass for the photo are there and fit securely. It is unknown if the glass is original or a replacement but it is intact with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches or abrasions. If you insert a photo into the locket be sure to replace the collar and glass with the same top and bottom placement as these two items would have been hand crafted to fit.
The seed and half pearls could be cultured or natural but their only value is as an accent. All but one of the seed pearls appear to be the originals. One in the bale is not a correct size for the progression of graduated sizing. The seed pearls in the leaves are a nice silver tone fairly matching in color while the larger pearls are whiter in color.
The bale and the interior bottom locket rim are stamped with the French eagle for 18kt. gold, there is no mark for the silver. Rich will not test the silver leaves and tear drop as we do not want to take a chance of damaging them. Being French it would be a minimum of 800 silver. From the top pearl of the locket to it's base is 1 13/16" x 1 1/16" at widest point. From the bale to the base of the locket is 2 7/8" long. At this time we have a pair of super French earrings (bottom photo) that may have been made by the same company that would go very nicely with the locket - see Item 294.
