Unger Art Nouveau sterling is considered by most, us included, to be some of the best designed sterling jewelry of the period. This Unger Bros. fob is all original and in outstanding condition. Our lovely lady is identical and in three graduated sizes. She is double wall construction which means she is hollow. She is comprised of two separate pieces, a patterned front and some what flat backside, that were soldered together on the outer rim. Under all that high relief, poofy face, hair and bonnet is just air.
The sterling is in excellent condition with no cracks, rips, dents, holes, deep scratches or repairs. You will see the normal and expected faint scuffing on the un-patterned backside that is commonly found on antique silver. Those are NOT DENTS on the backside but original to manufacture curves that allow the backside to properly meet the front's rim for soldering. All of the rings as well as the chain and latch appear to be the originals. The latch is in smooth working order with a nice spring movement.
The pattern definition is excellent plus. All of the chins and noses are well defined with no holes. All of the pattern surface is well round or curved as it was designed. You will even still see definition lines in hair and minute lines in the weave of her straw bonnet.
All three ladies have the standard Unger Bros. hallmark, as seen in the photo, on their backsides. The ladies measurements are approx. as they are not perfectly circular. They measure 1 3/8", 15/16" and 11/16". The fob measures 4 3/4" from the latch to the bottom lady. In it's time period the watch attached to the latch and fit in a pocket with the bonnet ladies hanging free as a decoration. Today you can still do so if you use a pocket watch or you can attach the latch to a bar pin or even better to a chain for a super necklace! At this time we also have a bonnet lady pin for sale - Item 502
