This Fireman's Fund match safe can be difficult to find. It is comprised of a some what uneven surfaced bronze body with rounded corners & an all over applied patina of a wonderful rich, very deep brick color. The front has it's original, firmly attached sterling plaque of a fireman carrying a child past the flames with the verbiage of "Fireman's Fund Insurance Company-Christmas Greetings-1915". The word "Shreve" & "Sterling" are on the minute, smaller then 1/32" side rim of the plaque below the M of "Christmas" & the E of "Greetings". It is viewable with a 10 power loop but to small for a photo (see photo # 6). The lid's hinge is in working order. When you close the lid it stops with the rim touching the top interior rim of the bottom of the safe (see photo # 5). It is just a hair off set probably from thumb pressure on the lid from use-no big deal! When you close the safe the lid is firmly closed with no wiggle & stays closed when safe is shaken. The bottom left corner of the safe has a very slight flatness & the left side top of lid has some indentation-see photo # 7. (Please keep in mind the photos are several times larger then the actual match safe) I can't decide if the safe was dropped or if these are part of the safe's original surface. Most sellers would not mention this-we do to be totally accurate. The original patina is in excellent plus condition with no rubs down to the base bronze. The body is all intact with no split seams, holes or repairs. It also has it's side ring for hanging from a chain. The sterling plaque has no holes, rips, cracks or repairs. It's pattern definition has some very light wear to the center top of the wreath, handkerchief over fireman's mouth/nose, the first 1 in 1915 & the ire in Fireman's from usage (see photo # 4). The striker ridges are well defined. The safe measures 2 7/16" tall x 1 13/16" wide x 7/16" deep. A super piece for a match safe, fireman or advertising collection.
