This Nuvole set is in outstanding condition and has a very substantial weight. Our set is definitely feminine but is less fussy having a more tailored look then the other two versions of the collection we have seen. It is perfect for that woman who wears quality jewelry with her business outfits or with that elegant cocktail dress.
The set is comprised of 950 platinum with just a bit of 750 (18kt) gold on the necklace's clasp and the clips on the earrings. The set has no rips, dents, holes, cracks, nasty scratches or abrasions. The necklace is made to stay in a collar shape but has light flexibility due to a form of hinged assembly between the links. There may have been a joint re-soldered on a link. The clasp and locking bar are all original and in smooth, firm, working order and close with a good thud. The spring movement in both clips of the earrings are in working order with excellent tension. The top of the clip fits against an original tiny circular disk portion of the back pattern on the earring. You can see on that disk a minute circle where the end of a post would fit and then insert into the open area of the clip. Since I have not been able to find another pair of these Nuvole earrings to inspect I am going to make an assumption. With Bulgari being the quality jeweler that they are I am going to assume the earrings were available in clip and pierced-they just had to add the post during manufacture!
The earrings contain identical marks of: 950PT, 750, Made in Italy, Bvlgari and the goldsmith registration mark. The necklace contains marks of: 950PT, 750, Bvlgari and a small rectangle that stamped badly on a curve that I am assuming is another registration mark. The interior rim of the necklace measures approx. 14 3/4" with the pattern width being an approx. 1/2". The earrings measure a hair over 3/4" tall x 5/8" at widest point. The entire set weighs 187 grams. Per a Vogue article I found that the Nuvole Collection was designed in the 80's. The Bulgari company originated in Rome as a jewelry shop in 1884 by Greek silversmith Sotirio Bulgari. During it's 130 years of rich history it has made and sold jewelry to some of the most famous people in the world, with Elizabeth Taylor being one of the most recognizable. The company is still in business today with a Bulgari at the helm.
