This jar has a lovely repousse floral lid that I feel has a bit of Art Nouveau influence due to some of the flowers used as well as a scalloped border. The glass has two alternating patterns each used three times. The first pattern is comprised of three long vertical panels that have a rounded top and base rim. The other pattern is comprised of four long, deep cut leaf like shapes. The four raised rims between the leaves have been done with a form of zipper cut causing a con-caved/con-vexed step ladder curving down the rims.
The sterling is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, nasty scratches/abrasions or repairs. The lid has been held to the light and I see no holes. The outer rim is well rounded with just a bit of that uneven surface found in antique silver. It includes a few pin point sized indentations, a 1/16" faint surface indentation and a 3/16" long light flat spot. The lid removes with nice drag, stays on when the jar is lightly shaken and has a slight rock in some positions but is firm in others. The center of the lid has presentation of "LWG" in a lovely flowing script.
The glass jar is also in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, scratches, abrasions or repairs. The beveled top rim appears to be all original and the base has light surface scratching consistent with movement across a vanity. You can find some flea bites on pattern facet rims and a 3/32" long x 1/16 wide nick on a panel rim. The glass is clear and bright with no fog, haze or cloudiness.
The marks are on the con-caved side rim of the lid as seen in the photo. The jar measures 3 7/8" tall x 3 1/4" at widest point of jar. A wonderful dresser jar in what I feel is a mix of two popular design styles in super condition!
