This Kerr dresser jar has a stunning Art Nouveau lid with it's raised pattern of a flowing haired beauty accented with poofy flowers. Just a beautiful and well done classic design as expected from Kerr. The ABP cut glass base is also stunning with two alternating patterns each repeated 5 times around the jar. The smaller pattern is a pinwheel of finely cut leaves with a raised circular center containing a 12 pointed star. The larger pattern is just as wonderful with a large center leaf having a well rounded marquise shaped bulge flanked by raised rims with a form of zipper cut along their facet rim tops. Along side this center leaf are fanned out fern like leaves done with fine lined cut accents and lovely depth. This is definitely a top of the line cut glass jar with it's unusual patterns, depth of cutting and dimension.

The sterling is in excellent condition with no rips, large dents, cracks, deep scratches or abrasions. Note her beautiful facial features with no dimpled chin, mouth or nose! Even the highest points of her hair still retain some fine accent lines. The outer rim and rolled base rim are extremely well rounded with just a hint of uneven surface found on all antique silver. I found 1 hole when the lid was held to the light. It is approx. 1/16" long by less then 1/32" at it widest point and located at the edge rim of the bottom most flower (see left bottom insert-photo #3). The lid fits with good drag and stays on when the jar is lightly shaken. There is no presentation engraved on the lid and there never has been any.

The glass is also in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, nasty scratches, abrasions or repairs. The top rim appears to be the original with it's high polished finish. Rubbing my fingers over pattern rims I can find some bites, flakes and rough spots as can be normal. I believe the majority to be original to cutting due to their positions. You can also find a couple of tiny nicks (hair larger then 1/32) as well as some impurities in the glass.

The hallmarks are above the rolled rim as seen in photo # 3's insert. The 1447 is the design number, the -5 means this is piece #5 in this pattern. The jar measures 4 1/4" at it's tallest point x approx. 4 1/2" in dia. at widest point of glass. A superb Art Nouveau lid with it's stunning high quality jar in excellent condition from one of the top silversmiths of the period. We think this is the largest jar in this very popular Kerr pattern and that it is very hard to find. (There are at least 4 smaller jars and many other dresser pieces in the pattern).
