Our cherub band is so cute and in wonderful condition. Their purpose in life was place card holders for your dinning table. But these adorable guys would also be great for info or price cards in a collection display cabinet or in a retail store setting - maybe antique or jewelry. We have a set of 8 that contain one cherub each playing guitar, cymbals, accordion, violin, and two each playing a horn and concertina. All of our musicians are sitting on a pedestal style base. Attached to each holder's backside base you will find an approx. 9/16" tall hook like stem to help support the card. On the majority of pedestal bases you can find a mark of ITALY somewhat unevenly impressed. They are heavy and strong for such delicate miniatures and will be usable for years, They don't ever need to be polished as they don't tarnish.
The metal appears to be a white brass alloy. It's content contains some percentage of copper as well as one of or a mix of zinc, nickle, manganese or tin which all give it it's "white" (actually silver) color. In some white brass formulas copper has the majority percentage which appears to be the case with our cherubs due to a bright green coloration in an acid test. All eight holders are in excellent condition with no missing pieces or repairs. The holders stand approx. 1 1/2" tall with a circular base diameter of 1" and all are 1" or less wide.
We have a total of two sets available- this Item 382 and Item 383. Each set contains 8 cherubs with the same total of 6 instruments but the odd 2 instruments are different. If you purchase both sets you will receive a 17th. cherub playing the cymbals.
