Victorian 3 Color Gold Fill Fob or Chatelaine Perfume Bottle - Circa 1880
This mini perfume bottle is in super condition and is very well detailed. The bottom of the bottle has the look of the mil-grained wire applied circles of the period. Around the shoulder area of the bottle are small alternating applied decorations of 4 rose gold fill diamond shapes, 2 sterling wings and 2 sterling four petal flowers. At the neck of the bottle are two graceful open work handles that are attached to the chain for hanging and the ball shaped stopper does remove from the bottle
The metal is in excellent condition with no cracks, rips, dents, holes or repairs. That separation in the long neck of the stopper is on both sides which enabled the maker to give the neck a slight fluted shape causing a very firm friction style closure for the stopper. The bottle opens by pulling the stopper lightly upwards with a consistent twisting movement. The 8 small applied decorations on the shoulder are firmly attached and appear to be original. The chain is without repair and also appears to be the original. The gold fill is in wonderful condition with the bottle neck, handles, stopper and chain having a rose gold look and the ball bottom of the bottle being yellow toned.
The perfume has no makers marks. The actual bottle measures 1 1/16" tall x 11/16" in dia. From the bottom of the bottle to the top ring on the chain is 3". Back in 1880 this would have been a lady's watch chain fob. Today it is a great collectable for a perfume bottle collection or to hang from a chain as a pendent.
