These Tiffany tongs are in excellent plus condition. The handle pattern definition has well defined lines & lightly rounded curly q's & leaves. The top of the tongs have a pierced pattern with hand engraved accent. All piercing is firmly intact with no breaks or missing pieces. The top of the handle has a very swirly art nouveau presentation. In fact it is so artistic I can't decipher the initials. The sterling is in excellent plus condition with no rips, tears, dents, chomps, deep scratches or repairs. It does have the expected light overall surface scratching/swirling from use & old style cleaners as found in antique silver. The tongs are approx 7 1/2" long. The pierced decorated front piece is 2 1/8" wide & the solid sterling back piece of tongs is approx 3" wide. The marks are on the inside portion of the back handle and read: " T TIFFANY & CO. STERLING PAT. 1890. " The "T" was used 1891-1902 per Rainwater. There is also a very very faint engraved "705" near the marks. This would most likely be the selling stores inventory number as this was a common practice 100 years ago. You don't have to use these tongs for just vegetables. With that spatula shaped base & the curved rim top they could have a multitude of uses. They would be great & look lovely on a table for rolls/pastry or sliced fruit at those special breakfasts or coffee/tea meetings.
