Gorham Sterling Marie Antoinette Serving Fork - Circa 1900
This serving fork has a beautiful hand engraved bowl area as well as a fully patterned handle and appears to be the fork from the fish set. Marie Antoinette was first released in 1890 but we do not know when it was discontinued. It was a multi motif pattern meaning the pattern appearance changed somewhat depending on the purpose of the piece.
The sterling is in excellent condition with no rips, cracks, dents, holes, deep scratches/abrasions or repairs. I believe the pattern definition on the handle has a bit of blurring to possible line definition on the higher points due to use and old style abrasive cleaners as can be normal. The line definition in the lower protected area of the shell patterns is excellent. The hand engraved bowl pattern is excellent minus with a bit of less deep engraving again from use and cleaners. The tines are straight with good points. Both the front and back of the fork have no presentation.
The marks are on the back of the bowl as seen in the photo. They are a earlier version of the Gorham marks which is the reason for the forks circa. The fork measures 8 3/4" long with the bowl being 2 5/16" at widest point. A great serving fork to add to your set or for a Gorham collection.
