This great fan shaped vase is clear glass, enameled on the inside with green, that has been acid cut back to leave the Kingfisher pattern, the vase's top rim and the bottom zig zag pattern all elevated. DeVilbiss then covered these areas as well as the stem and foot in gold. The acid cut back also created a texture to the exterior visible glass surface giving the vase a little extra pzazz.
The Kingfisher pattern came out in 1927 and the glass was made by Westmoreland for DeVilbiss. The pattern had an atomizer, dropper perfume bottle, a powder jar, a jewel case and the vase. You could buy the pieces separately or there was a lovely boxed set available of these 5 pieces. The boxed set was the most expensive DeVilbiss set in it's year. This info was acquired from an advance preview of the book "DeVilbiss Perfume Bottles: 1907 to 1968 by Marti DeGraaf & Toby Mack" scheduled to be released October 2014. The book is absolutely fabulous and is a must for a collector. It is sure to become the definitive reference book for DeVilbiss. We have added a link for you to see the book in "Our Favorite Links" located just below the "Email Shop" button on our Home page.
The glass is in excellent plus condition with no cracks, chips, nicks, nasty scratches/abrasions or repairs. Both the top and bottom rims are all original. The gold work is in excellent condition with the Kingfisher pattern completely covered, very even toned and bright without being gaudy. The top rim has an occasional minute spot of gold missing. The bottom has streaks of missing gold all around it's side rim with a couple thin streaks showing at the edge of the foot. Again the gold is nicely even toned, bright without being gaudy. One of the rings around the vase's stem has black spotting, this is normal to this type of gold work as it is applied to the surface and has no top coat to preserve it.
The base of the vase contains the "DeVilbiss Made In USA" mark. The vase stands 8 3/4" at it's tallest point x 7 3/8" at it's widest point with a 3 5/8" dia. base. A great addition for your DeVilbiss collection in outstanding condition.
