This is the most stunning enamel scenic jar. I can't decide what I love more. The exquisite shading of the enamel or the superb hand cut glass jar. Please excuse the glassy look on enamel photo #1-it is reflection. The inserts of enamel scene on photo #5 were taken to high light two different aspects of the enamel. The left side insert was taken at an angle to show you the beautiful shading of colors & top quality artistry without the translucent enamel shimmer & the underneath engine turned silver (a form of machined patterning) showing. The right side insert shows again the magnificent shading & artistry but also shows the shimmer & faint engine turned pattern. Rich thinks Item #334 is the best enamel jar he's seen-I have to disagree. In the 11 years I have worked with him I feel this scenic jar is the best. The beautiful enamel scene, of what we believe to be the Matterhorn, has been encircled with a lovely pastel aqua rim of enamel over a different engine turned pattern. The enamel is in superb, excellent plus condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. When I rub with my fingertips it is smooth to the touch with one exception. When I viewed this with a 10 power loop I found it to be a high speck in the enamel that is so small I can't find it to measure with my eyes. With intense inspection with the loop I found a smaller then minuscule surface scratch that I again could not measure as I can't find it with out the loop. This lid is in such perfect condition it is amazing. The lid & the hallmarked silver rim on the jar are 935 silver. The rim contains the mark of: 935 & the Austrian Hoopoe Bird touch-mark for items made after 1922 (insert photo #5). The silver is in excellent plus condition with no rips, nicks, dents, deep scratches or repairs. The interior of the lid has a bright, almost even toned gold wash (a form of plating). It also has presentation of "SHW" (insert photo #5). The hand cut glass jar is magnificent & comprised of three patterns (see photos 6-8). It had such a high rate of reflection from all the deep cutting & facets that I took photos of each pattern with an exterior & interior view of jar to show you the wonderful work. This was a top quality, highly skilled craftsman! The glass is in excellent almost plus condition. It is with out repair, cracks, deep scratches or large chips. With close inspection of the glass you can see some 1/32" & smaller nicks & cutting tool oops to the glass. With the reflection from the facets they have a tendency not to show except in the frosted center (see insert photo #9) belonging to the pattern shown in photo #6. I also found a few 1/16" small chips to pattern facets (see insert photo #9 for an example). The lid fits VERY firmly with a lot of drag. I have to use a spinning type motion to remove lid. The jar measures 3 3/8" tall x approx 5 3/8 at widest point of glass. This fantastic jar is a must have & shows circa 1930 Austrian enamel & glass craftsman at their best!
