Shreve & Co. 14 Kt. Gold and MOP Rattle with Nanny Whistle - Circa 1910
This baby rattle is in outstanding condition as it was definitely never given to the baby/toddler to play with as well as being very rarely, if ever, used! The bells are the originals and their interior beads have free movement. Both the bells and whistle have great sound. The gold is free of dents, holes, scratches, abrasions or repair and is firmly attached to the mother of pearl handle. You can see as normal some of that faint hint of surface scratching that antique gold and silver items get from cleaning and display. There are areas available for presentation on both sides of the gold that have never been engraved. The MOP handle is in excellent plus condition with no nicks, chips, scratches, abrasions or repairs. It shows extremely light evidence of usage due to occasional faint surface only scratches seen with a 10 power loupe. The MOP has excellent plus shine and shimmer. The marks are located on one side on a rim of the gold as seen in the photo. The gold portion of the rattle measures 1 7/16" tall by 1 9/16" wide thru the bells by 5/16" at deepest point (whistle). Including the handle the rattle stands approximately 3 13/16" tall. Every rattle collection should have a gold one and with it's outstanding condition this one is it.
