These Victorian earrings are super with great design and a multitude of hand work. The assembly and engraving are all hand done as well as those curlicues being hand crafted. The circular tops, the three leaves, both levels of the shield and it's center branches all have hand engraving. All of the floral motif seed pearl mountings as well as the minute flowers on the outer rim of the shield are silver. I had to go out into natural light to check the gold color areas. The circular tops, ear wires and the three leaves appear to be yellow gold with the shield and curlicues being rose gold.
The gold and silver are in excellent condition with no dents, holes, rips, scratches or repairs noted. With all the hand assembly it is impossible to be sure every solder joint is original. On the side rim of one of the top circular disks and on both ear wires above the disks you will find rub abrasions from a less experienced person doing an acid test. The rubs on the ear wires are not in a high enough position that would effect the comfort of the wire in your pierced hole. The seed and half pearls could be cultured or natural but their only value is as an accent. All of the seed pearls appear to be the originals and are intact with no cracks or missing pieces. The ones in the shield have a fairly nice silver toned color match and the half pearls in the top circular disks are whiter in color.
Both ear wires are double stamped with the French eagle for 18kt. gold as well as a makers mark. Rich has acid tested a shield and will guarantee a minimum of 18kt. also. The small silver mountings have not been tested as we do not want to take a chance of damaging them. Being French earrings they would be a minimum of 800 silver. From the top of the circular disk to the base of the earring is approximately 1 3/4" by 11/16" at widest point. From the center of the curve of the ear wire to the base of the earring is 2" long. At this time we have a super French locket that may have been made by the same company that would go very nicely with the earrings - see Item 482.
