This delightful cameo has a frame of delicate openwork filigree with leaf accent design and mil-grained rims. The oval shell cameo depicts a profile of a lovely woman dressed for a ball. The flowing shoulders of her gown includes a corsage with matching flowers decorating her upswept hairdo. A dangling, diamond accented, earring completes her formal attire.
*** Please note-which ever one of the cameo's 5 photos I put in the #4 position will not display on the listing. So you see 6 photo positions used but you ARE seeing all 5 photos taken of the cameo***
The gold is in excellent condition with no rips, dents, holes, missing-broken pieces or repairs. All of the solder joints on the gold mounting are visible on the backside. We do not believe this to be from repairs but from a heavier hand doing the joints. The pin hinge, pin stick, locking clasp and fold down bale are all the originals in smooth working order. The pin stick is straight and has a good point. Both the bale and pin hinges are all original and very firm in movement.
The cameo is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, abrasions or repairs and is firmly seated in the collar mounting. She has nice quality carving with fine accent lines in the leaves and flower petals. Her hair has been done with delicate carved lines giving an illusion of curving wisps of hair. Her face is well done with delicate facial features that include a wonderful eye.
The locking clasp contains somewhat blurred marks that appear to be two initials for the maker and a definite 14 for the gold content. The cameo with the bale folded down measures 1 9/16 inches tall by 1 3/16 inches wide. It is unusual to find diamond jewelry, especially an earring, on one of these "sweet sixteen" cameos
