This perfume bottle is just stunning and very elegant in design. The stopper is a beautifully hand cut eight pointed star gracefully raising upwards to a center point. The shoulders and base are also hand cut with lovely elongated panels varying in width. Through the center of the bottle is a delicate intaglio cut designed band accented in gold.
The glass is in excellent minus condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, deep scratches or abrasions. If you look hard enough you can find just a couple of those normal, approximate 1/64 inch, flea bites located on facet rims at the top of the star. This bottle survived the California Northridge earthquake and had a tiny chip on one star point that we had professionally removed. You can see this repair in photo # 9 on the star point that is in the 1/2 o'clock position. On the base of the bottle is an engraved P4 or 14. If you would untie the bottle and check the plug of the stopper you would find the identical engraving. This ID number system was used to match stoppers to their bottles after grinding for proper fit.
The gold accent is in superb condition being extremely well defined, even toned in color and 99.9 % there. With intense inspection I found just one missing speck. In the world of commercial perfume collecting the bottle is classed as full/tied down. But as you can see from the photos it is actually only half full due to years of evaporation. At the top of the bottle neck where it meets the top of the plug to the stopper you will find perfume residue. We have not cleaned this for fear of damaging/disconnecting the thin cord tie down.
The bottle through its gold accented band contains it's proper markings and the base of the bottle contains the remains of two labels as can be seen in photo # 8. This Violet bottle was made by Baccarat with the perfume "Valreine" being first released in 1911. The bottle is shape # 145 as shown in the Baccarat Perfume Bottle book. The bottle measures 4 3/8 inches tall by 3 1/8 through it's widest point by 1 5/8 through it's deepest point. This beautiful bottle is very hard to find and would be a lovely addition to a Baccarat or perfume collection.
