This is a stunning late 19th c. Japanese Satsuma pottery set in a bright silver alloy. The shape is unusual and the tiny beaded border is in excellent condition--no wear. The reserve depicts a thickly enameled white marsh bird--a crane probably-- in blue water by purple , white, and golden irises. The enamel bird and flowers, and gilding on the butterflies, is applied almost en ronde, so thick and dimensional! Each blade reed is outlined in gold giving the piece the look of gold embroidered silk. It measures 1 & 1/4" large; 1 & 1/2" diagonally. (I have others of this set listed as well.)
