This large late 19th c. button features a popular subject in enamel buttons known as Incroyable and Merveilleux, two "unbelievably wonderful" figures of the late 18th century. They are also known as French fops. This particular button appears in a variety of colors, but this one is uncommon for its monochromatic granite spatter enamel, dramatic black "sky" background, and it's large 1 & 1/2" size. The tiny cut steels along the border are brilliant! The button is in excellent condition.
