This is a very fine early 19th c. fancy button in manufactured imitation of the fine 18th c. en grisaille enamel paintings on buttons. It is a lacquered paper lithograph in very bright steel with a thread back--I have no doubt the industrial revolution revolutionized button manufactures too. They were featured, and reported upon, at an 1850s French trade show. These are hard to find in very good condition. It measures 1 & 1/8" medium..
