This is an exquisite very large late 19th c. Japanese Satsuma pottery button in silver-plated brass. The cobalt blue ground is overlaid with intricate hand enameled golden "embroidery" to complement the finest silk brocade in a surprisingly modern design. It has an unfamiliar backmark. It looks from the back as though it may have soothed some child's teething! Other than the teeny bite dents, it is in exceptional condition--even the Greek key or fret border is intact without wear!
