This is a 19th century Japanese Shakudo button portraying a nobleman or scholar with a scroll and REALLY big hair! The hair has a deep bronze patina, while the clothing is black patinated and silver. His under jacket is gold, peeking out at the armhole and fastened across the chest. It has a loop shank that at some time was reinforced with a blab of lead solder--not enough to harm you :) It measures 1 & 1/8" in excellent condition and lovely detail. With a powerful loupe, you can see the chrysanthemum mon at his throat.
