This late 19th C. Japanese Satsuma pottery was one a large buckle or button that has been converted (as a button person, I call this a downcycle) probably in the 1960s to a well-balanced wearable stick pin. It measures 3 inches top to pin guard and 1 & 7/8" wide. The pin guard is has some age and tests 14 karat gold--all the other metal is brass. The conversion is sturdy but not as pretty as a bench jeweler would have done it. The pin looks fabulous on a jacket (bring your team of immortals to that power meeting). Please notice the teeny dot border--intact--and the range of colors of the figures. The crackle glaze is a feature of fine antique Satsuma. (If this does not appeal as a brooch, I may upcycle it back to a button!)
