Some golden haired beloved is remembered in this large gold-plated brass mourning brooch. It measures 2 & 1/4 by 1 & 1/4 inches. It could be as early as 1850, but the style endured throughout the 19th century. The brooch is in excellent condition but for the the teeny dents of some teething infant--perhaps surviving birth but losing a golden-haired mother? The attraction to mourning jewelry really is a kind of imaginative voyeurism. I like holding these pieces and wondering.
