This large brooch looks Asian and was sold to me as "blue jade". I confess, I don't know jade too well, but it does display the properties. It is not highly shiny as chalcedony would be (kind of "waxy"), and it is not as uniformly translucent as is chalcedony--but it does have a chalcedony hue of blue. It measures 1 & 5/8" by 1 & 1/4". I don't think it is from China because it is clearly marked Sterling with a better quality roll-over clasp than seen on early 20th c. Chinese pieces, ofter marked only "silver". It's unusual and bright. Fortunately, the bird is quiet.
