This is a masterpiece of Japanese art. I will tell you all I know and then just describe this 2 by 1 & 7/8 by 1/2 inches brooch. It is made of bright silver, black patinated silver, high karat gold, and copper. The background is a technique called mokume--notice that it is like a herringbone pattern of silver and copper with a mirror finish. The clouds are in 3 colors of metal: teeny gold dots, dark silver, bright silver, and dark copper. The mountain looks snow-capped in some light, not so from other angles. The base looks like a copper-silver alloy. The intricately carved dragon is about 18 karat gold and has silver streaming from its mouth. I don't even know if this metal is chased or carved, but it is exquisite. The higher the magnification, the more interesting it gets.
