This is mid-19th c. Byzantine beauty is Theodora, wife of Justinian, and quite the character. The pieces are 14 karat gold (tested); the 18 inch chain is a gold-filled stand-in. The cameos are carved in lava of a tan hue and in very high relief. One lady on an earring has lost her nose--she's still beautiful and someone will have to be right on your ear to notice. They face left and right, a sign of age and quality. The pendant, formerly a brooch, measures 1 & 5/8 by 1 & 1/4 inches. The quality is lovely. They are lightweight pieces and except for a nose, in excellent condition.
